R&D and Biotechnology
As Sunar Investment, we are at the heart of value-added production with the only R&D Center operating in the field of starch in Turkey. Established in May 2018, our R&D Center operates with a technological infrastructure exceeding $1 million and an expert team consisting of engineers, bioengineers, and food engineers.
We focus our R&D activities on starch derivatives, biodegradable and bio-based polymers, and special formulations for the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, food, and construction sectors. With the products and processes we develop, we reduce dependence on imported raw materials while increasing our competitiveness in national and international markets.
Our R&D Center plays a critical role in the success of our group as one of the fundamental building blocks of our sustainable growth strategy fueled by biotechnology. In this context, by qualifying for the EXCIPACT GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certificate for the liquid sorbitol we produce from corn, we have internationally documented our ability to produce at high safety and quality standards for the pharmaceutical and excipient industries. With this certification, we are among the few companies in Europe capable of producing GMP-certified liquid sorbitol.
Agriculture-Based Bioindustry
Bio-industry is a strategic production field that reduces dependence on imports, increases export power, and supports sustainable development by transforming agricultural raw materials into high-value-added products through advanced technologies. As Sunar Investment, we play an active and pioneering role in this transformation with our structure that bridges agriculture and industry.
We transform corn, a strategic raw material with more than 4,000 areas of use, into high-value-added products for food, pharmaceutical, and industrial use through advanced biochemical processes. In this context, we are Turkey’s first and only liquid sorbitol producer certified with the EXCIPACT GMP quality system. Furthermore, we are the leader in the export of sorbitol, dextrin, and corn starch. By producing sodium gluconate, which is largely imported, in Turkey, we provide a concrete contribution that supports domestic production and fair competition.
With our agriculture-based bio-industry approach, we aim to increase the value of Turkey-originated products in global markets and create a sustainable industrial ecosystem.
Sustainability
As Sunar Investment, we treat sustainability as an integral part of our corporate culture by the very nature of our business. While reducing our environmental impact through energy efficiency and renewable energy investments, we provide a concrete contribution to our country’s green transformation via our Solar Power Plants (SPP). As of 2026, we aim to meet 95% of our facilities’ electricity needs from our own SPPs. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, this approach establishes a cost-effective and secure energy structure.
Social Responsibility
As Sunar Investment, we view social responsibility as an integral part of our way of doing business. While conducting long-term projects in fields such as education, health, and social assistance through the Hacı Nuri Çomu Foundation, we also actively encourage the voluntary participation of our colleagues in these projects via the Sunar Volunteers.
To date, we have implemented numerous initiatives, primarily including sapling planting, visits to orphanages and nursing homes, in-kind aid, and local social support projects. By moving our understanding of social responsibility beyond one-time aid, we aim to leave a permanent and measurable social impact for the future.
